“Sound the Alarm” Community Service Event

The Franklin County OSU Alumni Club has been presented with another exciting Community Service opportunity for our members.

On Saturday, June 9 we will participate in “Sound the Alarm,” a Red Cross program that helps install smoke alarms in disadvantaged neighborhoods in the city.

Sound the Alarm is a series of home fire safety and smoke alarm installation events nationwide. Volunteers will install 100,000 free smoke alarms in lower socio-economic neighborhoods, culminating in the installation of the one millionth smoke alarm!  Training will be provided and an experienced leader will accompany each group.

Since 2014, the Red Cross, in partnership with fire departments and other local groups, has visited homes installing free smoke alarms, replacing batteries in existing alarms and providing fire prevention and safety education to prevent needless tragedies. Join us today in helping to save lives.

To sign up for this event, please RSVP to Ron at abelcom123@yahoo.com.  Include your NAME, CELL PHONE NUMBER (so we can reach you if there is a last-minute change), and the NUMBER of people attending.  Questions?  Call Ron at 614-420-2736.

Thank you for supporting our community service efforts!

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION READERS NEEDED

In January we begin the most important task that we accomplish each year: the awarding of an OSU scholarship to a deserving Franklin County high school senior. The first step of that process is reading the applications. You will be truly impressed by the quality of the candidates we receive for the scholarship!

We need volunteers to read and score the applications. This process will begin around January 13 and will be completed by the end of that month. If you want to assist, please contact Brad Farmer, 614-371-5523 or bradfarmer21@gmail.com for details ASAP.

OPERATION BUCKEYE

As most of you know, the holidays will be here before you know it.  For those who have friends and family serving in our military services overseas, it can be a difficult time. There is a wonderful organization called Operation Buckeye, whose volunteers pack and ship thousands of care packages each year to these military personnel.  We want to help provide as many items as possible this year for their shipments.

Click Here for:  Operation Buckeye Item List of the most-requested items from our service-members.  If you are able to provide some items from this list, would you please contribute to our club’s donation to Operation Buckeye?
We will make it as easy as possible:  You gather the items, and we can arrange either a pickup from you, or a place for you to drop them off.

Thank you so much for your generosity, to help those who are defending our freedom!

WINE TASTING AT THE WINE BISTRO

Back by popular demand – Wine Tasting! We will gather at the Wine Bistro on Lane Avenue on Wednesday, November 1, from 6:30 to 8 pm. Plenty of parking is available around the Wine Bistro, both behind the building as well as across the street in the Lane Ave. Shopping Center. Along with the various
wine samples, complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be provided. There is only enough seating for 22 people to attend.
