BEAT THE WINTER BLAHS

January is a great time to stay indoors and curl up with a good book!  Our annual Book Club reading will begin in January, and we’re co-hosting again with the Asian & Pacific Islanders OSU Alumni Society. This partnership offers us a chance to learn about another culture, and after reading, we will gather our alumni together for dinner and discussion.

Fifty Words for Rain is a 2020 historical fiction novel by Asha Lemmie about a biracial girl named Nori in post-WWII Japan. Abandoned by her mother, Nori is raised in secrecy by her aristocratic grandparents, who hide her away due to her illegitimate birth. The story follows her journey of self-discovery as she navigates prejudice, family secrets, and her evolving relationship with her half-brother, Akira.

In March, we will schedule a dinner for our book club alumni readers to meet up with the API society book club readers, at a Japanese restaurant, so we can discuss the book and share in a similarly-themed meal.
To join our book club, simply email us with your name & phone number to OSUAlumniFranklinCounty@yahoo.com and we will add you to the list. That way we’ll keep you informed about the dinner event date and location.
