SCARLET vs. GRAY GAME

What a better way to forget about Tax Day than to enjoy some Buckeye Football!!  The Scarlet vs. Gray Football game will be on Saturday, April 15 this year.  We will have our traditional block of tickets and a tailgate party.  Game time is usually around 1:00 pm, following a lacrosse game, but that is not yet confirmed.

You can order your tickets now on our website!  The $15 cost includes all the food and beverages at the tailgate (rain or shine – we are “covered”) so bring the whole family!  There will be cheerleaders, the Best Damn Band in the Land, and of course Coach Meyer and JT Barrett will lead the team in putting on a show in the ‘Shoe!
Please include your name, phone and email information when you order.  You can send a check (made payable to Franklin County OSU Alumni) to Leyla Hawkins, 1149 Tillicum Drive, Worthington, OH 43085.

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE

On Saturday, April 1, we will serve lunch at the Ronald McDonald House for families with sick kids at Children’s Hospital.  Volunteers will be needed for two-hour shifts between 10 am and 2 pm to set-up, serve and clean up.  Our menu for this meal is easy to serve: Sandwiches, salads, fruit, and dessert.  Volunteers will also get a free Buckeye T-shirt from the OSU Alumni Association!

If you are unable to help us serve, but you wish to contribute to the lunch, then sponsoring a food item is the easy way to go!  Various donation amounts will help us supply a healthy lunch of sandwiches, salads, fruit, and beverages. Choose an item to sponsor and send us your corresponding gift – we will do the shopping!

 # of Items  ___ Sandwiches @ $5 each
___ lbs of potato salad @ $4 each
                      ___ lbs of fruit @ $6 each
Or you can choose a random amount and allow us to put it towards whatever is needed most.

You can contribute your donation on the link above or send a check in the mail. Checks should be made payable to OSU Alumni Club of Franklin County, and mailed to Ron Kenat, 3962 Winding Oaks Dr., Columbus, OH 43228 no later than March 25.
This event was so much fun last year, and the patients and their families are very grateful for what the volunteers do.  If you want additional details, or want to add your name on the volunteer list, please contact Ron Kenat at abelcom123@yahoo.com or call 614-420-2736.

Exam Week Goodie Bags – Save your Halloween Candy!!

Did you get too much candy when you went trick-or-treating?  Or do you have leftovers because not enough children came to visit you?  We have a great use for these goodies!!

The Franklin County OSU Alumni Club will be putting together goodie bags again this year for a group of students in one of the dorms.  Candy, gum, pencils, any little trinkets you think a college kid would appreciate while studying for fall semester exams — bring them to us!

We will collect items at our November meeting, or you can contact us to arrange a drop off or pick up.  Then we’ll choose a night to pack the bags, and another night to deliver them to the dorms.

You are welcome to participate in any of the three steps — gathering supplies, packing the bags, or delivering.  Just email us at osualumnifranklincounty@yahoo.com  and let us know what you can do.

Two of our scholarship recipients will be participating in this project, so its a great opportunity for you to get to meet some great students!
Contact today and let us know what you can do!

BUCKEYE BOOK COMMUNITY

The Franklin County OSU Alumni Club has once again been given the
opportunity to participate in the Buckeye Book Community for this summer/fall.
If you are interested in participating, please contact Jessica
Kohlschmidt by email at osustatalum09@yahoo.com or by phone at 614-946-2614 to
obtain a copy of this year’s book.

A full description of
the reading program is below, along with a synopsis of the book itself, and an
opportunity to attend the author’s presentation on campus.  The group
discussion will be held on campus with a selected group of students, prior to
the author’s appearance.  It is a great way to connect with the incoming
students!
Jessica will distribute
books at the alumni club meeting on July 13.
  If you cannot
attend, you can make other arrangements with her to obtain one.
Each summer all first year students complete
their first college assignment by participating in the Buckeye Book Community;
they are given a selected book during orientation.  Upper
class students, staff and faculty are also encouraged to read the book, and we
want to offer this book opportunity to you all, as part of our Buckeye
Community as well!

The book for the 2016-2017 year is The Other Wes Moore Two
kids named Wes Moore were born blocks apart within a year of each other. Both
grew up fatherless in similar Baltimore neighborhoods and had difficult
childhoods; both hung out on street corners with their crews; both ran into
trouble with the police. How, then, did one grow up to be a Rhodes Scholar,
decorated veteran, White House Fellow, and business leader, while the other
ended up a convicted murderer serving a life sentence?  Wes Moore, the
author of this fascinating book, sets out to answer this profound question. In
alternating narratives that take readers from heart-wrenching losses to moments
of surprising redemption, The Other Wes Moore tells the story of a generation
of boys trying to find their way in a hostile world.
Our Alumni Club will organize a group
discussion with a group of students during early Fall semester. If you request
a book from us, we would like you to participate in the discussion group as
well.  If you have any questions, please contact Jessica.
