The Ronald McDonald House helps families of sick children all year around, providing food and housing during their children’s illness. The Franklin County OSU Alumni Club supports these efforts as well as other community services. Please consider helping those in need on Saturday, April 23, as we provide lunch for a day.
There are 2 ways to help: Sponsor a portion of the meal, and/or join us that day to prepare and serve the food. Right now we are asking you to “Save the Date” to help us serve. If you are able to help prepare, serve, or clean-up on that day, please contact Ron Kenat, abelcom123@yahoo.com or by phone at 614-420-2736. We need some people starting at 10 am to prepare, some to serve between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm, and some to clean up.

If you are unable to help us serve, but you wish to contribute to the lunch, then sponsoring a food item is the easy way to go! Various donation amounts will help us supply a healthy lunch of sandwiches, salads, fruit, and beverages. Choose an item to sponsor and send us your corresponding gift – we will do the shopping!

The annual Scarlet vs. Gray Spring Football Game will be held Saturday, April 16 at the Horseshoe.  There will be cheerleaders, the Best Damn Band in the Land, and Urban Meyer’s re-loaded Buckeye football squad…. what a great way to celebrate spring!

The February meeting was held at at a special date and place. The meeting was on Feb 3 the Longaberger Alumni House at 6PM. In March we go back to second Wednesday for each month at Mozart’s Bakery, 4784 N High St, Columbus, OH

Our Alumni Club has obtained 20 tickets to the OSU vs. Iowa game on Sunday, February 28. We will host a tailgate party at the Applebee’s Restaurant on Olentangy River Road, about a mile north of the Schott. Game time has been set now for 4:00 pm, so the party will start pre-game around 2:00 pm.

To request tickets, please send your check for $27 per person (made payable to Franklin County OSU Alumni) to Leyla Hawkins, 1149 Tillicum Dr., Worthington, OH 43085. We are not able to sell these tickets online on our website. Include your name, phone and email information, along with the address where you want us to mail your tickets.

Come see the Buckeye Women’s Basketball team play Rutgers on Sunday, January 10. We will have our traditional pre-game tailgate party one hour prior to tipoff, in the Huntington Club on the second floor of the Schott. Food and soft drinks will be available at the concession stand in our area, where we will have tables reserved. Gametime is 2 pm, so our party will start when doors open at 1 pm.
We have great seats in Section 107. Bring the whole family for a great time!

It was the event all the ladies wait for each year!!! Saturday, December 12, we took a break from the shopping and joined fellow Buckeye women for our festive annual brunch. The event was held  at Bravo Restaurant in the Lennox Town Center, 1803 Olentangy River Road.

Several officers and chairs of our alumni board attended the annual Alumni Assoc leadership symposium at the Fawcett Center on Sept 24-25. The association leaders presented numerous new programs and options for all of the alumni clubs and societies in attendance. Much more support is available to us now, both financial and with personnel (increased staffing), from the Association.

Highlights of the event included the awards luncheon on Friday, where the Franklin County alumni club was one of 10 groups awarded Outstanding Club status, and where our own Jessica Kohlschmidt was also awarded with a Best Buckeye.

One of the new programs rolled out at this event is for all clubs to have an opportunity to reach various status levels which will result in a variety of awards, both financial and administrative. The levels are Carmen, Gray, and Scarlet. Carmen is the most basic level, while Scarlet is tops. Fortunately, your Franklin County Club already performs annually at a Scarlet level, so we just need to maintain most of our usual events in order to qualify for these awards. These requirements include holding at least two board meetings per year, a game watch type of event, a scholarship fundraiser, and 5 of what they call “category 1” events (student engagement, networking, special interest, arts, lifelong learning, and fundraising). By meeting these requirements, we can earn up to $2000 for our club. We will also qualify for additional funds, to be able to hold events without charging for attendance.

Staffing at the association has also improved. Where there was one person previously in charge of all clubs, there are now 6 people, who divide the clubs geographically. They have also offered to do mailings for some of our events and provide us with better information to find local alumni.

Thru the coming months your Franklin County club officers and chairs will work on finding ways for us to take advantage of these great new opportunities.

Based on changes with the OSU Alumni Association, our membership year is now aligned with the calendar year. Membership dues can be paid any time early in the calendar year and are good thru Dec. 31 that year.

New feature available! Similar to the Association’s plan, if you choose instead to donate $75 directly to our Franklin County Alumni Scholarship Endowment Fund, your membership dues for our club are waived for the following year! To contribute to the scholarship fund, contact the Endowment office directly at 292-2141 and use the fund number #600137.

One great benefit of keeping your membership up to date is that you are eligible for sporting event tickets that we provide throughout the year. Note: Dues are required before any football/basketball tickets can be requested!

Anyone can join our club! You do not need to have graduated from OSU or live in Franklin County. Associate memberships for those who did not attend OSU are available for $25/single and $30/family.

The Social committee will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 6 pm, at Gallo’s Tap Room on Bethel Road, to continue planning Fall events – Wine tastings, the Charity Tailgate, even the holiday events are starting to be planned. If you would like to join this active committee of volunteers, please get in touch with Mary Hemmer, 459-5752. The committee meets about three or four times per year to focus on details of these and other events.
