Book Club & Dinner Event

Its time for the Book Club again,  with a cultural twist!
Our club will be joining with the OSU Asian-Pacific Islander Alumni Society to read and discuss the memoir written by Aarti Shahani called
Here We Are: American Dreams, American Nightmares.”  It is the story of a family who came to the US from India in the 1980’s, dealing with being undocumented, obtaining their green cards, the unforeseen obstacles that propelled them into years of disillusionment and heartbreak, and the strength of a family determined to stay together.

Purchase the book on your own and complete reading it before Wednesday, March 18.  Then our alumni club will pick up the tab for dinner when we meet with the Asian-Pacific Islander Alumni Society that evening at 6:30 pm at the Hunan Lion restaurant (2038 Crown Plaza Drive, Columbus 43235)

The author has agreed to call in to our dinner event to join the conversation!

You could also send us an email (include your name and phone number) to: OSUAlumniFranklinCounty@yahoo.com to let us know you wish to participate, so we can send you details about the dinner when the time gets closer.  If you have questions, please contact Mary at 614-323-5379.

TAILGATE LUNCH FOR OSU POLICE WEDS SEPT 9

On Wednesday, Sept. 9, our alumni club will show appreciation for the OSU Police Dept by serving lunch for all the officers as well as their administrative staff. This event was extremely popular last year and the police department is glad to have us back

We’ll be serving a “Tailgate” style lunch, so we need a few folks to help set it up, and a few to clean up after. Join us for this great opportunity to give back to those who serve and protect the students and staff of our great campus!

We’ll have two shifts: we need some people to help set-up and serve from 12:30 to 3 pm, and some people to serve then help clean up from 3 to 5:00 pm

Sign up to participate by emailing us at (OSUAlumniFranklinCounty@yahoo.com) with your name, phone # and email address, and which shift you’re available for.

Come help us say “Thank You!” to these hard-working individuals!

VOLUNTEER AT HUCKLEBERRY HOUSE

Join us for a new community service event as we volunteer at Huckleberry House, a shelter for young people and families who are escaping dealing with a variety of issues in their home life.  We could be serving a meal, sorting donations, cleaning, painting or fixing things around the house.

Our date is Saturday, July 18, from 10 am to 12 Noon.  Please save this date to join us in helping these young people.  If you are able to volunteer for this event, please RSVP to Karyn Johnson (englanke@yahoo.com or 614-822-1430) with your name, phone number, and email address. DINNER FOR 12 BUCKEYES TUES MARCH 3

Join us for a very special event on Tuesday, March 3, as we participate in the Student-Alumni Council’s “Dinner with 12 Buckeyes.” Limited seating available — sign up early!
Created to foster friendships and networking opportunities between students and alumni, this event will take place at the Longaberger Alumni House at 6:00 pm. We need to arrange six alumni and six students for our table. If you are interested in participating, please email us at OSUAlumniFranklinCounty@yahoo.com with your name and phone number.
There is no cost to attend — the club pays for the meal.  When the list is full, we will take a few extra names as “alternates” in case someone has to back out. We must have at least 6 alumni to represent our group table. This is one of a few great opportunities we have each year to interact with current students, so please join us if you can!

JOIN US FOR OSU WOMEN’S HOOPS

The Franklin County OSU Alumni Club will have a block of tickets to the Lady Buckeyes’ final weekend home game of the season, vs. Wisconsin, Sunday, February 9, at 1:00 pm. We will host our usual “Tailgate” party in the Huntington Club (2nd level of the Schottenstein Center).

SESQUICENTENNIAL DINNER WEDS JAN 22

Join us for a unique evening to learn about some of the fascinating history of our city!  On Wednesday, January 22, at 6 pm, at the Alumni House, we will host our OSU Sesquicentennial Dinner, with a special presentation called “Columbus Uncovered!”This event will tie-in to the university’s year-long Sesquicentennial celebration (150th birthday of Ohio State).  The history of Columbus and the history of the university are certainly intertwined.
Learn about a long-lost, world-class amusement park, huge replicas of the world’s biggest wonders, a 1903 stage play with eight galloping horses, the 19th century pharmacist who loved to sunbathe nude atop his castle, the early visit of an airship that led to a riot.  And many curiosities are still with us today – a neighborhood with 50 Frank Lloyd Wright-style homes, a company that makes burglar-proof burial vaults, and more of the most-unusual chapters in our city’s history.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION READERS NEEDED

In February we begin the most important task that we accomplish each year: the awarding of an OSU scholarship to a deserving Franklin County high school senior. The first step of that process is reading the applications. You will be truly impressed by the quality of the candidates we receive for our scholarship!

We need volunteers to read and score the applications. This process will begin around February 1 and will be completed within two weeks.  Interviews will be Saturday, February 22. If you want to assist with reading applications or on interview day, please contact Brad Farmer, bradfarmer21@gmail.com or 614-371-5523 for details.
